When you first start out it is very important to pick products that are right for you. Once you start with a particular type or brand you are much more likely to become attached to it and it will be hard to change down the road. Brand loyalty not only applies to your clients, but to you as well.

While price is always a factor, you want to get the best quality products as well. You will need to assess your particular situation to know what your price range for a product should be. If you charge $15.00 for a fill you don’t want to be buying the most expensive product. You would need to look at products that fit the price range and pick the best from those. Likewise, just because you are charging $25.00 or more for a fill doesn’t mean you want to run out and buy what’s most expensive either.

I love sample kits. You only have to shell out a fraction of the price of a whole system, but you’ll get the total feel of the product, how it works and if you like working with it. I take advantage of sales and specials to try new products. The best place to try new products is at the nail and hair shows. If it’s possible you really need to take advantage of them and go. Not only will you learn so much and see what’s new, you can walk away with some of the best deals. I’ve invested in everything from waxing and paraffin systems to polish and toe separators.

Truth be told, I use all different types of products. Some are expensive, some are very cheap. Everything I use is top quality and does the best job for my clients. I buy from my local professional store, local representatives, discount supply stores (like supply source) and Nailco (although they have become a little pricey so I don’t use them often any more). What works for me might not work for you so you really need to give a few different brands a shot and never be afraid to change what you’re doing to get better results.
