Nail Product - part 2
| September 29, 2011 |Whenever possible, I always recommend you work with the same product during a service. What I mean by this is if you are doing a full set of gels, use all the products associated with that brand. If your are using ibd gel, then use ibd gel primer & ibd sealer. Same with acrylics, resins, and even waxing and facials. You can do a little bit of experimenting if you have to, like using Clean and Easy wax, but Gigi wax remover. Just remember that manufacturers specifically design their products to work together, and they usually do.
In the beauty industry you will find more products then you will be able to know what to do with. It can be tough to decide what to use. In school you will use products that are supplied or recommended by your instructors. Once you start at a salon they will stock the products they use and like. This may or may not be the best product for you.
For example when I was starting out I used the acrylic that they recommended at school. I had a terrible time. It took me forever to do a fill, I was filing like crazy to get the nails level and had problems with the product adhering. It never occurred to me that it was the product and not me. I spent a ton of time practicing and was extremely frustrated. I basically gave up on acrylics and stuck with tips, resin and gel. I lost quite a few clients because I was afraid to tackle it. A few years later I took a class with a great gal that loved acrylic and couldn’t believe I didn’t use it. She recommended the acrylic she used. So I figured I’d give it another shot, and what a difference! I was able to master a fill almost instantly. It wasn’t the most expensive product or well known, but it worked great.
That was a big wake up call for me and I really started to try lots of different products after that. I eventually moved on to a quick set acrylic that I liked even better. While I admit I’m set in my ways about a few things, I’m always up to trying something new.
