Nail Business - top 5 reasons to use a computer in the salon
| June 24, 2010 |
In this day and age if you are not using a computer in your salon you are really making a mistake. Not only are there tons of ideas and lots of information to be found, it is a great way to keep in contact with your clients.
I love computers, and quite frankly I’m addicted to them. Whether you use a PC or a mac, a laptop or desktop, it doesn’t matter. What you have access to is the same, and the information is unlimited. I’m quite sure I could come up with a lot more then 5 reasons to use a computer in the salon, but these are my top 5:
1. Create a website.
It is so easy to do and is very inexpensive, if not free. Why set up a site? So your clients and potential clients have access to information about you and your salon services 24/7. Websites are a great form of advertising and getting your salon exposure. With a little effort you can let people know who you are and what you offer. It also is very professional, and will let clients know you are a serious business. You also have the ability to let clients see who you are and what you offer before even stepping in your salon. Many people prefer to do things by computer these days, and it’s a great way to make contact.
2. Offer specials and incentives.
I’ve said this before and will keep saying it - create a client file on every client that walks through your door. Make sure that you have a place for their e-mail and ask your client if they would like to recieve promotions from your salon. You always want permission, so they don’t get annoyed or view it as spam. I’ve never had a client say no, once I mention specials and incentives they look forward to them.
3. Networking with other salons and nail technicians.
There are loads of websites and forums all over the Internet. You can make contact with other nail techs and see what ideas they have or what new products they are using. It’s also great to search other websites for marketing and service ideas. Visit manufacturer sites as well to see the latest products they are offering.
4. Contact with your clients.
It’s just an added way for your clients to get in touch with you in and out of the salon. If you have a day off you can still have contact with your customers through e-mail. If necessary you can always pick up a phone to straighten something out, but it’s an added touch to give your clients access to you and make them feel special. The best part is you only have to answer or address e-mail when it’s convenient for you.
5. Instant access to knowledge.
Say a client comes in with some type of skin rash. You don’t have to guess what it could be, just google it. There isn’t much that can’t be found online. Not only will this instantly let you know what you are dealing with and how to proceed next, you can also educate your client on the subject.
I hope some of these tips will be helpful to you. If you haven’t tried any of these ideas I hope you will.
