Magazines for nail salon owners

| May 27, 2010 |

There are three must have magazines for any salon owner.  They are Nails Magazine, Nailpro magazine and Day Spa magazine.  They are filled with tips and tricks and wonderful articles.  They also have many advertisements for the newest products.  They have cards that make it easy to request more information on a variety of things.  They each have fabulous websites that are a goldmine of information.

I’ve searched all over, but have only found any discounts if you are a student.  The best way to purchase each of these magazines is directly through the magazine websites.  You can reach Nails Magazine here, Nailpro magazine here and Day Spa magazine here.

I always read each issue looking for new information and recommend that you keep them in your break room so that your technicians can read them as well.  I don’t recommend leaving them out with the publications you have for your clients.  While your clients might find some of the information interesting, these magazines have a lot of information about how and where to buy products.  Some of this information can be used by your clients to purchase products that you carry and sell in your salon.  Products that you will make money on if your client buys from you, so keep the professional magazines out of sight for your clients.  If there is an article or something you feel your clients would really benefit from, take it out of the magazine or re-print it in some way.

When it comes to the magazines that you have in your waiting area for your clients, I find it’s best to have a variety.  Try to have magazines that are guilty pleasures, ones that people enjoy reading but wouldn’t buy for themselves.  I always have People Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Star & Soap Opera Digest as my weekly magazines.  For monthly publications I have Sports Illustrated, Cosmo & Glamour.  These are just a few examples, you can customize based on what you feel your clients will enjoy.

In addition to monthly magazines it’s important to have weekly publications.  Many of your clients are in your salon every week or two and will look forward to reading the lastest issues.  It’s also good to weed through your magazines every few weeks and recycle the outdated magazines.  Your clients may not talk about it, but they notice if your magazines are old and they’ve already read them.  New magazines weekly is an easy way to keep your clients happy.
