About me
I have been involved in the beauty business since the day I was born. My Father is an exclusive hairdresser in New York and my Mother started out as a nail technician. She eventually became the head receptionist and ran the salons. They owned and operated salons my whole life. While other kids were working jobs at fast food places to make a few bucks, I was sweeping floors, making appointments and paying attention.
I worked my way through college by doing other students nails. It was a great gig, I met lots of new people and made good money. I graduated with my BA in Psychology, and a double minor in business and English, and set out to conquer the world. The only problem was that I hated the jobs associated with my hard earned education. I tried, really I did. I worked for quite a few different companies, but 9-5 in an office setting wasn’t for me. Plus the money stunk. I was used to quick cash every day.
So I went back to work as a nail technician. This time I worked for someone else. My Dad felt it was important for me to learn every part of the business and to do that I would need to experience what it was like to be a real employee. He was very right. I was able to see a whole different side of the business which help me greatly later on when I opened my first salon.
Even though I grew up in the business, was extremely knowledgeable and had the most amazing mentor anyone could ask for, I still waited close to two years before I opened my own salon. I truly learned every aspect of the business and made note of what worked and what didn’t. Once I had my own salon I was able to use my ideas and what I had learned to my advantage. I was able to avoid many of the mistakes first time owners make and build a very successful business.
I hope you find the information in this blog informative. I will attempt to pass along all the knowledge I have accumulated over the years to help you succeed in your business. It will take a while for me to cover everything, so if you are looking for something in particular be sure to leave a comment and I’ll try to get to it as fast as I can.
